Seven people, including the Norwegian and Filipino ambassadors, were killed when a Pakistani helicopter crashed into a school.  17 people were on the helicopter when it went down.

#2 Kansas braces for more bad weather
Despite recent flooding and tornadoes, some Kansans may not get a reprieve.  Conditions are ripe for more powerful tornadoes and storms in the Midwest.

#1 Officers face murder charges in Freddie Gray’s death
In a press conference today, Baltimore lead prosecutor Marilyn J. Mosby said there is probable cause for criminal charges against the six officers.  Mosby said the knife Gray was arrested for carrying turned out to be legal.

#2 Death toll in Nepal rises above 6000 peopleNepal_Earthquake_2015_01
According to the Red Cross, towns near the epicenter of the 7.8 earthquake have been nearly completely devastated.  The BBC is reporting the 6,204 people dead with another 13,932 injured.

loretta lynch#1  Loretta Lynch confirmed as newest US Attorney General
Loretta Lynch was confirmed in a 56-43 vote Thursday after a five-month long political squabble.  Congressional republicans have held Lynch’s nomination over several political disputes including the president’s immigration executive action.  Lynch has been called the most qualified nominee in history for the attorney general position.

#2  More Brownback budget cuts
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback is proposing $72 million in spending cuts  to make up for next year’s predicted $400 million dollar budget shortfall.  Currently on the chopping block are bond payments for the National Bio-Agro Defense Facility,  and Medicaid.  Brownback also wants to increase fees to Kansas hospitals.

#1 King of Clubs killed by Iraqi Forces
Iraqi forces are claiming to have killed a man who was in Saddam Hussein’s leadership circle.  Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri is the King of Clubs in a pack of playing cards that U.S. troops were issued so they would recognize the most wanted officials of Hussein’s regime.

#2 Welfare Woeswelfare
Kansas recently passed a law which tightened restrictions on what people receiving cash-assistance could buy.  They are no longer allowed to buy alcohol, tobacco, movie or concert tickets, and lingerie among other things.
