DJ Spotlight: Colby Miller and Timothy Roberts

Colby Miller and Timothy Roberts are two of our Jazz DJs. You can listen to them Sundays from 9:00-11:00a.m.

Hometown, year, and major?
Timothy: I am a sophomore music education student from Overland Park, KS.
Colby: Overland Park, Sophomore, and Broadcast Journalism.

Why did you join KSDB?
C: I’ve always wanted to be on the radio. It is the bomb.
T: I really joined KSDB to spend some quality time with my best friend Colby Miller.

What made you want to DJ a Jazz rotation?
T: Jazz is my favorite genre of music. I often perform it in the Manhattan area so it seemed like the right fit.
C: Personally, Jazz is a nice, relaxing music genre. Of the three in rotation, it is my favorite to listen to.

What have you learned so far from working at KSDB?
C: I learned that Dj’ing on the radio is a lot harder than I thought.
T: Since being on KSDB, I have learned a lot about thinking quickly and doing so while I speak.

What is your favorite part about working at KSDB?
T: My favorite part about the radio is the ability to provide the area with much more than the song title. I often like to add in some facts or history about songs and artist that I know and like.
C: Hearing myself on the radio. Also sipping in little jokes during transitions.

What are some albums/artists you’ve been listening to lately?
C: Some classic Frank Sinatra.
T: Recently, I have listened to a lot of Bill Evans. Specifically his trio in his live at the village vanguard album and his album explorations. The bass player, Scott LaFaro is tremendously talented. String bass is my primary instrument so there is much to learn from him! My all time favorite song is Chameleon by Herbie Hancock in his Headhunters album.

What is your favorite movie of all time?
T: There is no question in my mind as to the best movie ever created. It is clearly Apollo 13 and anyone who denies this fact is no longer my friend.
C: Technically it’s three, but you have to marathon them when you watch them; The Lord of the Rings. Extended, of course.
